Our Bachelor of Science in Health Science (Post PTA) program is designed for students who have completed a physical therapy assistant (PTA) associate degree and want to apply their credits from that program toward a bachelor’s degree. South College is one of few programs in the country to offer this option, which can save you a great deal of time and expense as you continue your education in physical therapy. In our Health Science (Post PTA) program, you’ll work to expand your knowledge in areas like biology, chemistry, physics, healthcare administration, human resource management, and health science leadership. By earning your bachelor’s degree, you may expand your opportunities for administrative and other roles as a PTA. It is also a key requirement if you wish to apply to the Doctor of Physical Therapy program.

Mission

The mission of the BS Health Science (Post-PTA) program is to provide a curriculum that balances theoretical and practical coursework that further develops the critical thinking and analytical skills needed in today’s competitive and evolving work environments. Students will be challenged through coursework in various disciplines including science, mathematics, business, health science, and sociology.

Program Goals and Expected Outcomes

The program seeks to provide a theoretical and practical coursework that further develops the critical thinking and analytical skills needed in a competitive and evolving work environment.

  • Students will be able to synthesize, integrate and analyze research in health science literature in selected science courses.
  • Students will demonstrate an understanding of health law and ethics principles applied to various issues facing the healthcare system, individuals, and society.

The program seeks to provide students with the academic knowledge and skills to enable them to enhance their marketability for administrative positions in physical therapy or health care environment.

  • Students will demonstrate an understanding of administrative theories, methods, tasks, decision making and management, and leadership functions.

The program seeks to provide students with academic knowledge, skills, and tools to enable them to be successful in graduate program studies such as a Doctor of Physical Therapy program.

  • The curriculum will meet the needs of students who plan to apply for research and other graduate programs.

Admission Requirements

Applicants interested in the Bachelor of Science in Health Science (Post-PTA) program are required to meet individually with an admissions representative and program faculty to ascertain if their goals can be met by the college. Prospective students declaring this program as their major must be generally admitted to South College and meet the following requirements in order to be considered for full admission to the program:

  • Evidence earning an associate degree from a CAPTE accredited Physical Therapist Assistant program.

Satisfactory minimum core courses/credits are required to have been met in the associate degree program. In the case that these requirements were not met, the student is required to complete these requirements.

What is the tuition for South College?

Tuition and fees for South College students vary by program, and tuition rates are tiered based on the number of credits taken each quarter. For example, in our undergraduate programs, students taking 10-20 credits per quarter are charged one quarterly tuition rate based on their program, while students in the same program taking 1-5 or 6-9 credits are charged different tuition rates. Our tuition rates are designed such that South College students who take a high number of credits per quarter may be able to complete their program at a lower total cost than students who take fewer credits per quarter. Yes! South College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award degrees at the doctorate, educational specialist, master’s, baccalaureate, and associate levels, as well as certificates. Our expansive online study and hybrid options allow our students to learn wherever they are located, and often with the flexibility of their own convenient time. Does South College accept Transfer Students?

Yes! Credit for transfer work may be given if it was taken at an accredited collegiate institution, if it is equivalent to courses offered at South College, and if it carries a grade of C or better. Any coursework taken over seven years ago may be denied transfer credit if the material is outdated. Policies for the acceptance of any graduate level transfer credit are determined by the associated program faculty within guidelines determined by the institution.
