South College introduces Master of Science in Criminal Justice through Competency-Based Education
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE December 17, 2024
South College has launched its Master of Science in Criminal Justice program through Competency-Based
Education (CBE) delivery. This innovative format allows working professionals to progress at their own pace by demonstrating mastery of course content, providing a flexible and personalized path to educational advancement.
“We are excited to offer our program that combines the flexibility of CBE with the robust curriculum needed to address today’s complex criminal justice challenges,” South College Chancellor Steve South said. “This degree program has historically aligned with our mission to provide education that empowers students to advance their knowledge
and professional skills in impactful ways.”
South College’s CBE delivery is a modern approach to earning a degree. Instead of traditional term-based
learning, students engage in a six-month subscription-based model with no set due dates and the convenience of online learning. This flexible and cost-effective option is ideal for individuals looking to break into a new focus area or advance professionally while balancing work and personal commitments. “Our CBE model is perfect for professionals looking to enhance their skills while managing other responsibilities,” said Dr. Michael Patrick, South College CBE president. “Students can move quickly through familiar material and spend more time on new or challenging topics. This individualized approach to learning, combined with our focus on real-world applications, prepares graduates to meet the evolving needs of the criminal justice field.”
The Master of Science in Criminal Justice program offers the option for a General Track or a Public Administration track, allowing students to align their education with their professional goals. The Public Administration concentration focuses on leadership and management in public safety and social service agencies.
In addition to flexible learning, the CBE model provides an interactive online environment where students engage with faculty. This structure fosters collaboration and enhances the learning experience. The program also emphasizes critical thinking, research analysis and community collaboration – key competencies for advancing in the criminal justice field.
Enrollment for the Master of Science in Criminal Justice program is now open. For more information and to apply,
